Quote Tips

As specialists in car insurance, we give big discounts to drivers with excellent driving records; here are some quote tips to keep your car insurance as low as possible.

  1. Adding other, high risk drivers to your insurance policy can increase the premium; therefore we recommend that you put as few named drivers on your policy as possible. Drivers aged 17-25 are considered the highest risk and therefore should only be included if absolutely necessary. There are a number of companies who specialise in high risk groups (please visit 4 Young Drivers for a competitive quote on high risk drivers, i.e. young drivers, convicted drivers, performance cars etc.).
  2. Alarms/Immobilisers can make a big difference to car insurance, with some insurers offering substantial discounts for professionally fitted systems. If you don't already have an alarm/immobiliser we recommend that you invest in one. We don't guarantee this will bring your quote down as all insurance companies have their own rules, but at least it'll bring you peace of mind.
  3. When you ask for a quote, don't increase the estimated value of your car in the hope that you will get more money from a claim. ALL insurance companies will only give you the market value of the car at the time of the claim. The market value is determined by a car's age, condition and mileage.
  4. If you're just about to buy your first car, don't get a quote in your parent's name if you are going to be the main driver. You might be hoping for a cheaper premium, but this is an illegal form of insurance fraud called fronting. You could invalidate your policy in the event of a claim and get a criminal record. A policy in your own name will starting earning you a No Claims Bonus immediately, leading to substantial savings after the first year.
  5. If you've recently passed your driving test, consider taking a "Pass Plus" course. This is a series of lessons covering driving at night, motorway driving etc, this scheme can net you a discount on your car insurance.
