The government has been working exceedingly hard over the past few decades to stamp out drink driving and has been very successful with its shocking TV adverts particularly around Christmas. Not only can drink driving increase your car insurance premium, but it can cost lives.
Therefore the government are trialling a new scheme aimed at convicted drink drivers who have had their license revoked and are just about to receive them back.
The principal of the scheme is simple, if the driver is over the limit, the car won't start. A so called "alcohol lock" is installed in the car that requires a breath test before the car will start, obviously if the breath test is over the limit the car will not start. To combat people trying to fool the system drivers will also be required to provide a sample at random intervals in the their journey.
The question is, how will this technology be applied to law abiding citizens? Could this be a standard features on all new cars in years to come? Perhaps this system should be fitted(at their cost) to persistent offenders vehicles.
Attitudes to drink driving have changed considerably over the years, it used to be socially accpetable that someone would go out for a few pints and then drive home, these days most people are very concerned about their alcohol consumption when driving. In our opinion you're probably safer having none for the road, that way you have nothing to worry about.
