Police get tough on speeding bikers

An unusual law is being used by police to impound bikes that belong to speeding bike riders. Speeding has always been an issue with getting cheap bike insurance - bike riders tend to like speed which does not go down well with bike insurance companies. With this new 'get tough' regime, penalties for speeding riders are about to get worse.
Under the law, bike riders will have to pay £105 to get their bikes back, if they do not pay within 21 days then their bikes can be crushed.

Leading the law change - section 59 of Police Reform Act was the Lincolnshire force - an area already famed for its quick coastal roads - which does not help in the quest for cheap motorbike insurance.
As well as a release fee, bikers will have to pay £12 a day storage. Other forces to be using this scheme include Derbyshire, Wiltshire and South Wales. Caephilly police have issued 80 0dd warning notices to drivers.
This will have an impact on insurance for motorbikes be they big or small
