Satellite navigation systems cause accidents
Every year motorists are faced with the problem of how to use the latest in-car technologies that help them navigate through the streets and motorways of the UK . But according to the DVLA (The Drivers Standards Agency), these in-car technologies could be more of a hindrance than helpful.
Insurance companies have released figures that show an increase in drivers hitting other motorist because they have taken their eyes off the road to look at the directions on the satellite navigation system.
In order to combat this increasing problem the DLVA is up-dating the new version of the High Code (to be released next spring) to include in-car gadgets such as satellite navigation and route finders.
Satellite navigation and route finders are just some of the topics being addressed in the up-dated version of the Highway Code. As it is found that too many accidents are caused due to motorist taking their eye off the road. Motorist groups are calling for laws to be introduced to make it an offence to use satellite navigation and route finders while driving.
Traditionalists are claiming that basic skills like map are under threat due the new in-car technology. While motorist that are all for new technology claim that having satellite navigation in there car made that feel more comfortable.
